Box Score Williams outscored Middlebury 50-28 in the second half as the Ephs (13-5, 2-4) picked up an 89-65 win over the 15th-ranked Panthers (13-3, 3-2) on Sunday afternoon. Middlebury returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Lyndon State at 7:00 p.m.
The Panthers held a 23-21 lead midway through the first half on a layup from Matt Folger. A quick 7-0 spurt by the Ephs gave them a 28-23 advantage at the 8:09 mark on a tip-in from Marcos Soto. A Soto three later gave Williams a 36-28 lead before Matt St. Amour and Jake Brown sparked a 9-0 run to give the guests a 37-36 edge with 23 seconds remaining in the half. The Ephs answered with a late three from James Heskett, taking a 39-37 lead into the halftime break.
After shooting 55.6 percent in the first half, the Ephs shot even better (61.5 percent) in the second 20 minutes as they began to pull away.
Leading 42-40 at the 16:40 mark, Williams went on a 17-5 run over the game's next 4:24 to grab a 59-45 lead. The Ephs slowly increased their lead, going up 77-58 on a three from Mike Greenman with 6:10 left to play. The Panthers shot 33.3 percent from the floor in the second half and could not cut into their deficit.
St. Amour finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-18 shooting from the floor, while Brown added 10 points. Eric McCord scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Jack Daly dished out five assists.
Soto's 20 points on 8-11 shooting led Williams, which also received 18 points apiece from Heskett and Daniel Aronowitz.
Williams finished the game with a 43-28 edge on the boards.
