The seventh-ranked Middlebury women's tennis completed an impressive 3-0 home weekend with a 9-0 victory Sunday over #26 Skidmore at the Proctor Tennis Courts. The Panthers (9-3), who also defeated #1 Emory and sixth-ranked Bowdoin over the last two days, hit the road for a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday at #14 MIT.
Middlebury had little trouble during doubles play, sweeping all three matches against the Thoroughbreds (8-8). The top Panther tandem of Ria Gerger and Lily Bondy secured the first point with an 8-4 victory over Madie Benn and Michelle Fuca. In the second slot, the duo of Sadie Shackelford and Kaysee Orozco edged Skidmore's Caroline Finnegan and Brianna Greene, 8-6. The Middlebury pair of Alexandra Fields and Christina Puccinelli completed the sweep with an 8-1 triumph at #3 over Alexa Goldberg and Laura Swenson.
In singles play, the Panthers cruised to straight-set wins in all six flights. Puccinelli picked up the fourth Panther point at #4 after leading in the first set by a 5-0 score before Erica Meno was forced to retire. Shackelford clinched the match from the #6 spot with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Caroline Hobbs, while Fields won in the second spot (6-1, 6-0) against Fuca.
Gerger was victorious at #1 (6-1, 6-2) against Greene, while Bondy was next off the court with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #3 against Finnegan. Molly Paradies rounded out the scoring by posting set tallies of 6-1 and 6-0 at #5 versus Swenson.
