On the road for the first time this spring, the seventh-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team continued its hot start with a 9-0 victory over Babson (11-3) in the Boston Sports Club. The Panthers (4-0) travel west for a quartet of matches in California during its spring break trip, starting with a contest against NCAA Division II Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
Middlebury had little trouble during doubles play, sweeping all three matches. The Panther tandem of Alexandra Fields and Lauren Amos secured the first point at #3 with an 8-2 victory over Tori Paolino and Kylie Kam. In the second spot, the duo of Lily Bondy and Sadie Shackelford eased to an 8-4 win against Chloe Brandt and Eleni Gianelos. The Middlebury pair of Ria Gerger and Kaysee Orozco completed the sweep with an 8-5 win over Yagmur Akgul and Jenny Quenard in the top slot.
In singles play, the Panthers surrendered just one set with five straight-set triumphs in the six flights. Fields picked up the fourth Panther point at #1 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Gianelos. Christina Puccinelli clinched the match from the #3 spot with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Paolino, while Bondy won in the second spot (6-1, 6-0) against Quenard.
Molly Paradies was victorious at #4 (6-4, 6-2) against Brandt, while Shackelford was next off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #6 against Kam. Amos rounded out the scoring with a 6-4, 5-7, 3-2 victory against Claire Foster in a match stopped due to the facility closing.
