Box Score The Middlebury women's hockey team completed a weekend sweep at Colby as the Panthers earned a 1-0 NESCAC victory on Saturday. Goalie Kiana Verplancke made 18 saves for her second-straight shutout and Jessica Young's power-play goal in the second period proved to be the game-winning tally. Seventh-ranked Middlebury (15-4-3, 11-0-3) is at Williams on Friday at 7:00 p.m., while the Mules (5-15-3, 3-12-1) cap the regular season Tuesday at Southern Maine.
The lone goal came in the middle period, when Young scored a power-play goal at the 17:58 mark of the period. Elizabeth Wulf had a nice pass across the crease area to Young, who one-timed her shot for her eighth goal of the season. Maddie Winslow also earned an assist, which was her team-leading 15th helper.
Verplancke made eight saves in the opening period as the Mules held an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. The Panthers got on track in the second, holding a 10-2 advantage with one of those resulting in the game's only goal.
Middlebury protected the lead in the third for the team's second shutout in the last three games. Colby goalie Angelica Crites made 26 saves, as the Panthers outshot the hosts 27-18.
Young's goal extended her point streak to four games, recording three goals and seven assists (3-7-10) during that stretch.
