Williams had a pair of chances in the closing moments of regulation, with Mohammed Rashid getting the first. Rashid created a shooting lane at the top of the Middlebury penalty area, but the Panther defense quickly stepped in to block the attempt. Scatt Macdonald recorded the second scoring bid, with a long hard shot from just outside of the penalty area, but keeper Middlebury Greg Sydor corralled the shot on one bounce.
In the first 10-minute overtime, the visitors had a quality opportunity in the 92nd minute when Drew Goulart settled a pass from Daniel O'Grady, but his shot was blocked. Play went back-and-forth during the rest of the first overtime with Williams taking four corner kicks and Panthers two.
A final flurry for Middlebury resulted in the match's only goal. A long throw-in by Tim Ogle was knocked over the end line by an Eph defender, resulting in a Panther corner kick. With time winding down, O'Grady served the corner kick directly into the crease, before it skipped to the far post where Horton knocked the ball in. His fifth tally of the fall came with three seconds before the teams would need penalty kicks to determine who advanced.
