On a day where just two strokes separated the top four teams, Williams emerged as the winner at the 2016-17 NESCAC Men's Golf Qualifier. The Ephs and Trinity both finished with a two-day total of 585, with Williams winning the tiebreaker via the best score between the fifth golfers on Sunday. The Bantams (585), Amherst (586) and Middlebury (587) rounded out the field of four that will take part in the spring championship hosted by Williams. The qualifier took place at the par-71, 6,315-yard Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the campus of Middlebury College. This marked the seventh-straight year in which the qualifier host institution did not finish in first place.
Pacing the Ephs were Will Kannegieser (74-71) and Grant Raffel (70-75), who each carded two-day totals of 145. Cameron Clark of Amherst took home medalist honors with a 139, including a 69 on day one. Will Rosenfield of Trinity placed second overall with a 140, including a tournament-best 68 on Sunday. Owning the third spot was Middlebury's Rodrigo Andrade, who turned in a 72 and 71 for a 143 overall. Tom Dunleavy of Bowdoin (70-74) and Jack Junge (71-73) of Trinity rounded out the top five, each shooting a two-day total of 144.
Aiding Rodrigo's efforts for the host school was
Philippe Morin, who finished in a tie for 11th place after carding a 148 (72-76), while
Reid Buzby was next with a 149 (77-72), tying him for 12th. Rounding out the Panther squad were
David McDaniel (74-76) and
Jeffrey Giguere (77-73), who each finished with a 150.
