Men’s Golf Heads to Connecticut For NESCAC Championship

The Middlebury men's golf team heads to East Haddam, Connecticut for the three-day NESCAC Championship. The 54-hole event begins on Friday at the Fox Hopyard Golf Club.

ABOUT MIDDLEBURY

  • The navy and white seek their 11th league championship. Their total is second behind Williams, who has won 13 titles.
  • Middlebury's most recent tournament victory came in 2023.
  • Last season, the Panthers finished fifth with a three-day total of 922 (302-304-316)
  • This is the second year of the championship's 54-hole format.
  • The squad has tallied 11 individual medalist honors, with the last coming in 2023.

PANTHERS TO WATCH

  • Pacing the Panther contingent in each of the three spring invites has been Charlie Schulman. The senior shot a career-low 68 over the final 18 holes at the Bantam/Hartford Invitational to secure a share of sixth. He also enjoyed a top-20 finish (80-72-152) at last weekend's University of Rochester Fred Kravetz Invitational.
  • In his first campaign, Evan Fulgieri has bolstered the lineup throughout the spring. His best performance came at the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational, shooting a career and team-best 71 in the final round to earn a share of 26th alongside Schulman.
  • Julian Galindo Macias returned to the squad after being abroad in the fall. Over three events, the junior has logged a pair of top-30 finishes, including a 36-hole score of 147 (73-74) in the squad's initial invite of the calendar year in Connecticut.
  • Another player who has seen action is Nathan Keshen. The second-year competitor shot a career-low 75 during the opening round in Rochester and carded a 153 to grab a share of 22nd.
  • Jake Forrest closes out the Panther contingent, having teed off in two invites during the spring campaign.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

  • The Ephs lead the NESCAC with 13 league crowns and search for their first since the 2017 campaign.
  • Seven institutions have won conference championships.
  • Trailing by five shots entering the final 18 holes, Amherst rallied to grab its ninth conference crown with a three-day total of 896 in 2025. It was also the Mammoths' first NESCAC championship since 1997.
  • Paari Kaviyarasu looks to defend his medalist honor after posting five birdies in the final round to shoot a four-over 227 for the Mammoths a season ago. Kaviyarasu aims to be the first repeat medalist since Jack Meehan of Tufts won the 2021 and 2022 editions.
