After the teams went through 90 minutes of scoreless regulation play, Colby keeper Avery Gibson came up with a huge save in the 95th minute, pushing a header from close range by Middlebury's Tim Ogle over the net.
Panther goalie Greg Sydor recorded one of his two saves early in the second 10-minute overtime period to keep the match scoreless.
Gibson collected five saves for Colby as the Mules held edges in both shots (11-9) and corner kicks (6-2) for the match.
With the draw, Middlebury retains the Michael P. Russell Memorial Cup. This cup was established in memory of Michael Russell who graduated from Middlebury in 1998. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 36, leaving behind a wife and two daughters. Michael had siblings attend both Middlebury and Colby, thus setting up the annual match.
