The alpine ski teams were first to kick off the University of Vermont Carnival on Friday afternoon at the Main Street Race Course at the Stowe Mountain Resort. The giant slalom races took place on Friday with the slalom events to follow on Saturday. The nordic portion of the carnival will take place on February 5-6. The Panthers sit in fourth place overall after two events.
Caroline Bartlett boasted the top finish of the day, pacing the alpine women with a sixth-place effort in a time of 2:12.53. Just missing a top-10 finish was Lexi Calcagni, who crossed the line with a season-best 11th place, covering the course in 2:14.20. Elle Gilbert rounded out the scorers in 22nd place, coming in with a two-run combined time of 2:17.21.
The men's squad was riddled with falls as Rob Cone, Riley Plant and Christopher McKenna each went down during their respective first runs. Colin Hayes was the top finisher on the men's side, crossing the line in 12th place with a time of 2:08.61. Next for the team was Ghassan Gedeon Achi in 19th place (2:10.21), followed by Christoph Niederhauser in 31st (2:12.42).
