Box Score The Middlebury women's hockey team posted a 2-0 NESCAC win over visiting Bowdoin, as the Panthers recorded their second-straight shutout on Friday in Kenyon Arena. Julia Neuburger made 13 saves in goal for the Panthers notching her first career shutout, while Maddie Winslow tallied both goals for Middlebury. The seventh-ranked Panthers (8-3-3, 4-0-3) and the Polar Bears (6-7-1, 3-4-0) cap the two-game series on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
The game got off to a fast start with both teams producing good scoring chances on the first shift. Middlebury's Kelly Sherman put a shot off the cross bar from the right circle, while Bowdoin's Ariana Bourque had a partial breakaway that Neuberger smothered.
The teams played even for the most of the opening period, as Middlebury earned a late power play with 34 second left on the clock. The Panthers didn't waste that opportunity, as Winslow lifted a loose puck over Polar Bear goalie Sophia Lattanzio with 15.4 seconds left.
Middlebury doubled its advantage 1:31 into the second period, when Winslow put home her second goal of the game. The play started behind the Polar Bear net, as Jessica Young sent a pass to the slot that was one-timed by Elizabeth Wulf. Lattanzino made the save, but Winslow came from the corner to tuck in the rebound. Her two goals on the night give her a team-leading seven on the season.
Bowdoin's best opportunity to score in the period came at the 13:48 mark, as Miranda Bell made two moves to get through the Panther defense. That bid was thwarted as Neuburger held her ground and forced the shot wide.
In the final period, the Polar Bears earned three power plays, but each time Middlebury's defense muted those opportunities. In the final minute, the Panthers prevented Bowdoin from getting Lattanzio to the bench in favor of an extra attacker with Young and Winslow keeping the puck pinned deep in the Polar Bear zone.
The Panthers, who held a 30-13 edge in shots on goal, went 1-5 on the power play and Bowdoin was 0-4.
