Box Score Middlebury scored three first-half goals in a span of 13:08 on its way to a 4-1 league win over Hamilton (0-4-1, 0-3-1) Sunday afternoon on Dragone Field. The Panthers (2-1-1, 1-1-1) return to action Tuesday night at Plattsburgh State, while Hamilton visits Connecticut College next Saturday.
Jamie Soroka got things going for the Panthers, scoring twice in a 2:56 span. Her first tally came at the 21:08 mark from 12 yards out after a restart. Grace Woroch touched the ball to Soroka, who ripped a shot over the wall and into the top-right corner of the net.
Middlebury's second goal came on a corner kick, as the ball bounced to Alissa Huntington who played a nice header to Soroka, before she netted the 12th of her career on a header past the arms of Rachel Cooley.
Amanda Hotvedt got in on the scoring at the 34:19 mark, moving around a few defenders before blasting a shot into the top-right corner of the net from 18 yards out.
Hamilton threatened late in the half as Ali Clarke sent a ball toward the net that was cleared off the goal line by Amanda Dafonte, before Hannah Withiam's follow-up was deflected away.
The Continentals got on the board at the 42:54 after Clarke's initial shot from the left side was partially saved by Panther keeper Kate Reinmuth. Darbe Philbrick was there to finish as the lead was cut to 3-1. Hamilton continued to pressure the Panthers, including a nice opportunity for Withiam in the 48th minute, but her shot went just wide from 15 yards after a footrace with Reinmuth.
Middlebury put some distance between the teams in the 58th minute with the second of the game from Hotvedt. Emma Shumway sent a roller across the box that Hotvedt one-touched into the top-left corner of the net for the game's final goal.
With a strong second half, Hamilton ended the game with a slight 13-12 shots advantage, holding a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Reinmuth finished with five saves to earn the win, while Cooley made four stops for the Continentals.
