On the heels of a road victory Saturday, the ninth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team remained perfect in NESCAC action with a 5-0 victory Sunday over visiting Connecticut College in a match played to decision inside Duke Nelson Arena. The Panthers (7-3, 2-0) will next take to the court next weekend when they entertain #3 Williams on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Wheaton (Mass.) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Middlebury cruised through all three matches in doubles' action. The Panther tandem of Lauren Amos and Alexandra Fields secured the first point with an 8-2 victory over Emily White and Ellie Rudd at #3, while the team of Jennifer Sundstrom and Kaysee Orozco blanked Charlotte Marcoux and Aneeka Kalia in the second spot. The region's eighth-ranked duo of Middlebury's Ria Gerger and Lily Bondy completed the sweep with an 8-2 win against Aleksandra Drljaca and Adrieene Sieverding.
In singles play, the Panthers lost just four games in the two matches needed to secure the decision. Amos made it 4-0 in favor of the hosts via a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at #4 over Emily White. The fifth and decisive point for the Panthers was garnered by Gerger, ranked ninth regionally, with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Drljaca.
In the other matches that went unfinished, Bondy grabbed the first set against Marcoux at #2 (6-1) and led 2-0 in the second, while Sundstrom also was up a set (6-1) and one game from a victory leading 5-1 in the second against Susanna Studwell.
