Playing for the first time in a week, the eighth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team fell to #10 Bowdoin by a score of 7-2 in a NESCAC match played outdoors on Pickard Tennis Courts in Brunswick, Maine. The Panthers (7-5, 2-2) stay in Maine and return to the courts Sunday with a 10:00 a.m. conference match against Bates.
The Polar Bears (11-3, 5-1) grabbed all three points in doubles play. The #2 match was the first to finish as Bowdoin's Tess Trinka and Kyra Silitch earned an 8-4 victory over Jennifer Sundstrom and Kaysee Orozco. In a matchup of top-10 regionally-ranked teams in the #1 match, the sixth-ranked duo of Joulia Likhanskaia and Tiffany Cheng edged #8 Ria Gerger and Lily Bondy. The hosts completed the sweep when Emma Chow and Pilar Giffenig posted an 8-5 triumph at #3 over Alexandra Fields and Lauren Amos.
In singles, Giffenig was the first to finish with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Middlebury's Katie Paradies in the sixth flight. Trinka clinched the match for Bowdoin via a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Bondy, while Silitch made it 6-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Margot Marchese at #5. The Panthers got on the board when Fields posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Cheng at #2.
The two remaining matches went the distance as Likhanskaia earned a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 over Gerger in a battle of top-five regional individuals, while Middlebury's other point came from Orozco at #4 via a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 triumph against Samantha Stalder.
