Box Score Middlebury dropped its second-straight NESCAC road game, falling at Bowdoin by an 88-70 score on Sunday afternoon in Morrell Gym. The Polar Bears improve to 15-6 for the season and improve to 5-3 in conference play, while the Panthers drop to 15-6 overall and 4-3 in the league.
Matt St. Amour led Middlebury with a game-high 23 points, while Dylan Sinnickson pitched in with 13 points and nine rebounds. Matt Daley added 10 points off the bench.
Lucas Hauseman paced the Bowdoin offense with 21 points, followed closely by John Swords with 20 and Bryan Hurley, who tallied 17 including going 5-10 in three-point range. Matt Palecki also scored in double digits for the Polar Bears, draining 13 points along with a team-leading eight rebounds.
Bowdoin jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead sparked by a pair of threes from Hurley, but Middlebury chipped away with an 11-3 run that began with a St. Amour shot outside the arc. The Polar Bears took control once again as Palecki and Swords combined for 14 points to widen the gap, sending Bowdoin to the locker room with a 45-35 lead over the visiting Panthers.
Daley opened the second half with back-to-back jumpers to cut the host's advantage down to six points (45-39). Middlebury answered every Bowdoin score over the next five minutes, never allowing the Polar Bears to regain a double-digit lead until Swords finally pushed the score to 59-49 with 14 minutes remaining.
Bowdoin held the Panthers to just four free throws over a six-minute stretch, allowing the combination of Jake Donnelly and Hauseman to push Bowdoin's lead to 79-60. The Panthers couldn't muster a comeback attempt as the Polar Bears eased to the win.
The Polar Bears shot just over 52% (36-69) from the field and an even 50% (8-16) from outside the arc. Middlebury managed 39.7% (25-63) for the contest and just 28% (9-32) from the three. Both teams tallied 38 rebounds, as the Polar Bears held a decisive 15-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
Bowdoin returns to action on Friday night with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Bates. The Panthers play a non-conference game at home on Tuesday night against Lyndon State at 7:00 p.m.
