Box Score The fourth-ranked Middlebury women's hockey team scored three goals in the third period Friday on its way to a 4-1 win at Connecticut College (11-7-3, 6-5-2) in game one of a two-game series. The Panthers (15-2-3, 10-1-2) will look to complete the sweep at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The win extends Middlebury's unbeaten streak to 15 games (12-0-3), as it has not lost since November.
Neither side could get on the board in the opening period. With 3:16 remaining in the frame, Allie Aiello nearly put the visitors on the board but Kelsie Fralick was able to make a nice kick save on her shot from the slot.
In the middle period, Middlebury goalie Annabelle Jones impressed the crowd with a nice stop on Jill Dahrooge with 14:40 to play.
Maddie Winslow was able to finally put the Panthers on the scoreboard with 42 seconds left. She converted a cross-crease pass from Jessica Young to make it a 1-0 game.
With 11:47 remaining in regulation, Steph Izzi buried a slap shot from the top of the circle to even things up at 1-1.
The visitors answered 3:20 later when Kelly Sherman pounced on a rebound in the slot area and lifted one past Fralick making it a 2-1 game.
Connecticut College emptied its net with 2:40 remaining and a one-goal deficit. Emily Fluke corralled a loose puck and found the back of the empty net with 2:17 remaining for her 15th goal of the season.
Young tacked on another empty netter with 45 seconds left to close out the 4-1 win.
Jones finished with 20 saves to earn the win for Middlebury, while Fralick stopped 33 shots for the Camels.
