Box Score The Middlebury women's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 2-1 loss at sixth-ranked Williams (15-1-1) in the NESCAC Semifinals. The Panthers conclude their 2015 campaign with a 7-5-5 mark.
The two teams' regular-season contest was one of only two games where the Ephs were kept off the scoresheet this season, as the Panthers knocked off Williams 2-0 on October 27.
The Ephs wasted little time on Saturday, scoring twice in the game's first 6:35 to take a 2-0 advantage. Jacqueline Simeon sent in a corner from the right side with Kristi Kirshe there to score on a header into the top of the goal at the 4:09 mark. Mia Mitsuyama doubled the lead at 6:35, converting a penalty kick.
Middlebury nearly got on the board in the 18th minute, when some nice passing resulted in a good look from Katherine Hobbs sailed just high.
Williams nearly extended its lead 30 minutes in, but Kirshe's bid for a second goal went just high. Three minutes later, the Panthers were right back in the contest, after Adrianna Gildner ripped a 20-yard effort into the top corner from a tight angle on the right side past Eph keeper Tressa Palcheck.
In the second half, Panther keeper Kate Reinmuth denied Kristina Alvarado with a big save to keep it a 2-1 game.
As the final 10 minutes of the game approached, the Panthers began to bear down on the Eph penalty area, creating several opportunities that nearly became equalizers.
Gildner sent in a free kick into the heart of the penalty area from the right wing, but Amy Martin's effort was denied by Palcheck.
Six minutes later, Palcheck came up big again with a diving save on Hannah Robinson during a corner kick play.
The Panthers continued to pressure, but the Ephs held on, moving into the NESCAC Championship game.
Middlebury outshot its opponent 16-7 on the afternoon, with Williams holding a 5-1 corner kick advantage. Reinmuth finished with three saves, while Palcheck was credited with five.
