Box Score Anna Van Kula scored with 47 seconds remaining to lift fifth-ranked Middlebury (2-0, 2-0) to a 2-1 win over Trinity (0-2, 0-2) in Kenyon Arena. With the victory, the Panthers sweep the two-game NESCAC series and will return to action next Friday when they host Elmira at 4:00 p.m. in the Panther/Cardinal Classic.
As it did on Friday evening, Trinity scored first in the game, taking a 1-0 lead 12:57 into the contest. Melissa Maffeo's initial shot was blocked before Shelby Labe jumped on the rebound and scored to put her team ahead.
The Trinity lead held until just 1:18 into the second period when the Panthers knotted the game at 1-1. Maddie Winslow intercepted a failed clearing attempt and scored with a wrister to the top left corner of the net.
With the game tied a 1-1 late, Middlebury put on some pressure. A flurry in the crease area with 3:01 left could not break the tie, nor could a wrister from Katie Mandigo that sailed just high with 1:20 remaining.
The game appeared to be heading into overtime when Elizabeth Wulf broke free from a pack behind the net and gained some space. She quickly fed Van Kula in front, who sent a shot into the back of the net for the game-winning tally.
Trinity finished with a slight 21-19 shots advantage in the game as both teams were 0-4 on the power play. Julia Neuburger made 20 saves in goal to pick up her first career win, while Sydney Belinskas made 17 stops for the Bantams.
