Box Score The Middlebury women's soccer team let one slip away on Monday night, leading 3-0 with 23 minutes remaining at Keene State (5-3-2) before settling for a 3-3 double-overtime draw. The Panthers (3-3-2) return to action on Saturday at Tufts.
Middlebury overwhelmed Keene State in the first half, outshooting the Owls 10-2. The Panthers opened the scoring in the 12th minute when
Amanda Haik fired a free kick that squirmed over the line. Nearly 10 minutes later,
Adrianna Gildner doubled the lead when her shot to the far post nicked off the crossbar and into the back of the net.
With just six seconds left in the half, Gildner made it 3-0 on another set piece. Shooting from approximately 28 yards out and far to the left, she sent the ball over KSC goalie Dani Warhall's shoulder into the upper corner for her third score of the year.
Keene State came out with renewed energy in the second half, and nearly got on the board just three minutes in when Taylor Farland's free kick caromed off the post.
The Owls broke through when Tori Laires headed in Jennifer Wilson's corner kick in the 68th minute.
Keene State continued to press, as Sierra Trzepacz forced a brilliant save out of Middlebury goalie
Emily Eslinger in the 82nd minute. Trzepacz hit a half-volley from the top of the area that Eslinger tipped onto the crossbar in the 82nd minute.
The hosts scored twice in 23 seconds to tie the match. At 83:29, Patricia Norton threaded in a through ball for Shannon Summers, who chipped the ball over Eslinger for her third of the season. The game-tying goal came when Trzepacz beat Eslinger to the far side to knot the score.
In overtime, the Owls picked up key saves from Warhall, who stoned
Grace Woroch in the first extra session, then kept out
Hannah Robinson's header and Gildner's effort in the second.
Warhall finished with a career high 10 saves, while Eslinger made three. Middlebury finished with a 19-9 advantage in shots.
