Box Score The Middlebury women's soccer team remained unbeaten in its last three matches, earning a 1-1 tie at Tufts on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers (3-3-3, 2-2-2) return to action at Wesleyan on Sunday, while the Jumbos (4-5-1, 3-3-1) visit Endicott on Wednesday.
The Panthers got on the board early in the match when Adrianna Gildner scored in the 10th minute for Middlebury. Jamie Soroka came down the left side of the field, drawing out Tufts goalkeeper Emily Bowers, allowing Soroka to feed the ball to Gildner in the box. Gildner tapped it beyond Bowers' reach into the back of the net for her fourth of the season.
Tufts fought on its offensive end as Jess Capone took a shot on goal from 25 yards out that was saved and Alex Scheman zipped a shot from the right side in the 40th minute, only to be saved on a diving attempt by Panther goalkeeper Kate Reinmuth.
With just 42 seconds left in the first half, Alessandra Sadler netted her first career goal for the Jumbos, assisted by Allie Weiler, tying the game up at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Despite a combined seven shots in the second half, the two squads failed to score and headed into overtime still tied 1-1. Middlebury saw two chances on back-to-back direct free kicks early in the second half, followed by back-to-back shots in the 80th and 81st minutes, one blocked and one saved by Emily Bowers (four saves). Capone had a last opportunity for Tufts in the half in the 85th minute on a scramble after a corner kick, taking a shot from 15 yards out that was saved by a diving Reinmuth.
With no shots taken in the first overtime period, the Jumbos and Panthers headed into double overtime. Tufts saw its best chance on goal in the 106th minute with a crucial corner kick, but were unable to capitalize as time wound down.
Middlebury held a 14-9 shots advantage in the game as Reinmuth finished with six saves.
