Box Score The Middlebury men's soccer team scored three goals in the final 30 minutes to earn a 3-0 road win over Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers (5-0-1) travel to Colby on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. match with the Mules. Colby-Sawyer (3-4-1) resumes North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. contest at intrastate rival New England College.
The Middlebury victory is its fifth straight via shutout, giving the team a streak of 470:20 without allowing a goal.
The match was scoreless until 60:20 when Kirk Horton was able to control the ball in traffic inside the box. Horton put home his second goal of the season into the left corner of the net.
Five minutes later, a Colby-Sawyer player was sent off, giving the visitors an 11 on 10 advantage over the final 25 minutes.
Middlebury took advantage of the man-up opportunity in the 74th minute. Adam Glaser found the foot of teammate Noah Goss-Woliner as he entered the scoring area. Goss-Woliner one-touched the ball toward the left side of the goal where it hit the post and went in.
Goss-Woliner was involved in Middlebury's third goal 2:33 later. He sent a corner kick into the box where Horton headed the ball into the back of the net for his second of the game.
Colby-Sawyer's best chance came with 3:35 left in the match. Alex Ortega took a free kick from outside of the box and ripped the ball toward the goal. Middlebury keeper Greg Sydor jumped to his right with an outstretched arm, just far enough to deflect the ball up and over the crossbar.
Sydor earned his fifth victory of the season with the one spectacular save, while Colby-Sawyer goalie Nick Austin finished with 12 stops.
Middlebury finished the contest with a 31-4 edge in shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
