The Middlebury women's golf team opened its 2014-15 season by recording a third-place finish at the 12-team NYU Invitational. The two-day event was contested at the par-72, 5,812-yard Spook Rock Golf Course, as the host Violets won the event with a combined total of 620. Mount Holyoke (639), Middlebury (641), Randolph-Macon (661) and Amherst (663) rounded out the top five teams.
Michelle Peng led the Middlebury scoring with a 146, including a 1-under 71 during Sunday's play, to land runner-up laurels. Jordan Glatt wound up in a tie for 13th place with a 160 (79-81), while Hope Matthews posted a tie for 18th place with a 164 (83-81) in her first collegiate tournament.
Theodora Yoch fired a 171 (88-83), good for a tie for 22nd, while Emma Kitchen rounded out the Panther squad with a 211 (118-93).
The Panthers return to action next Saturday and Sunday when they take part in the Mount Holyoke Invitational.
