#10 Women’s Golf Takes Home Polar Bear Shootout Title

The #10 Middlebury women's golf team secured first-place honors at the Polar Bear Shootout with a 36-hole score of 588. The host Polar Bears, ranked 15th in the latest Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) poll, claimed second (593), while #5 Amherst (595) secured third place.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Season Wei was one of two golfers to shoot under par in both rounds. The Panther carded a 143 to share medalist honors with Wesleyan's Amanda Phillips.
  • Lucy Wang shot a two-under 71 over the final 18 holes to jump 17 spots and tie for seventh alongside Williams' Angela Nip.
  • Sharing 11th was Teegan Duffy. The junior tallied a combined score of 73-76-149.
  • Julia Hua closed out the Middlebury scorers, rising a team-best 26 slots in the final round with a one-under 72 to slide in a share of 19th. The Panther shot a 36-hole score of 151. 

NOTES

  • The Panthers logged 36 birdies over the weekend, with 21 coming on Sunday. Wei led the charge with eight, while Wang was right behind with seven.
  • Wei (143) and Duffy (149) each recorded new 36-hole lows in a Middlebury uniform.
  • This weekend's victory marked the first time that the Panthers opened the season with a victory since the 2023 Hamilton Fall Invitational.

Middlebury returns to Vermont to host the two-day George Phinney Invitational, set to begin on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
