Playing its sixth ranked Division III opponent of the spring in nine matches, the eighth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team (6-3, 1-1 NESCAC) was tripped up 7-2 Sunday afternoon during a NESCAC dual match against #2 Williams (12-0, 2-0 NESCAC) inside the Nelson Recreational Center. The Panthers will have nearly a week off from competition before they hit the road for a trio of matches next weekend. Their first match is next Friday against #3 Emory to be played at Bowdoin at 12:00 p.m.
In doubles, the Ephs secured two of the three points. The closest match came in the third spot between the Middlebury tandem of Lauren Amos and Margot Marchese and Williams' Alex Stone and Linda Shin. The two pairs needed a tiebreaker before Amos and Marchese were victorious 9-8 (7-3).
Middlebury's lone singles point came at No. 2 singles from Alexandra Fields. Williams' Kathleen Elkins grabbed the opening set by a 7-6 (7-4) score, but Fields rebounded and won sets two and three by tallies of 6-3 and 6-1.
