The 10th-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team concluded its regular-season schedule with a 9-0 setback at #4 Amherst. The Lord Jeffs improved to 16-3 and 8-0 in the NESCAC, while Middlebury falls to 9-6 and 4-3. Both teams will now prepare for the 2014 NESCAC Championships hosted by Bowdoin from May 2-4.
Amherst's Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin eased past Kaysee Orozco and Ria Gerger in the top slot, 8-2. Notching an 8-3 second doubles victory, Jen Newman and Zoe Pangalos turned away Lily Bondy and Alexandra Fields, while Safi Aly and Sarah Monteagudo earned an 8-2 decision over Middlebury's Dorrie Paradies and Katie Paradies.
In the top singles match, Brewer cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Gerger. Playing in the day's only three-set match, Devlin outlasted Fields at #2 by scores of 6-7 (6), 7-6 (3), 10-5. Newman downed Orozco in straight sets at #3, 6-1, 6-2, while Sue Ghosh edged past Bondy, 6-2, 7-6 (8) in the fourth slot.
At fifth singles, Pangalos secured a 6-2, 7-5 win over D. Paradies, while Monteagudo posted a 6-0, 6-4 victory over K. Paradies at #6.
