Box Score Middlebury completed a two-game sweep of Colby (0-2, 0-2) as Madeline Marsh made 13 saves Sunday in a 2-0 shutout victory. The fourth-ranked Panthers (2-0, 2-0) will be on the road until January 9th, playing their next six games away from Kenyon Arena, including a pair at Trinity next weekend.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead just 1:33 into the game when Carly Watson scored with a shot through traffic from the left point. Colby had a great chance to tie the game later in the period with a five-on-three opportunity, but could not take advantage. The Panthers nearly doubled their lead with 2:30 remaining, but Allie Aiello's tip of a Emily Fluke pass was saved by Colby netminder Jessica Thulin (25 saves).
Marsh was equal to the task in the second period, denying Bella Papapetros in a two-on-one situation. On the other end of the ice, Thulin made a big stop on a one-timer from Katie Sullivan at the 5:55 mark. Carly Schaeder later hit the pipe for the Panthers as the action went up and down the ice in the second period.
The Panthers broke through and made the score 2-0 4:31 into the third period when Janka Hlinka scored on a rebound after the original shot by Fluke had been saved. Middlebury nearly added to its lead at the 13:26 mark, but Colby's Delaney Flynn made a nice diving defensive block to deny Panther Kelly Sherman.
Middlebury outshot Colby 27-13 in the game.
