Alpine Team Opens Carnival Season At Vermont

The Middlebury alpine ski team opened its carnival season by competing at the University of Vermont Carnival on Friday. The Panthers sit in fourth place after day one, with the Catamounts leading the event. All races were held at Spruce Peak at the Stowe Mountain Resort, with the giant slalom event taking place on day one. The nordic portion of the carnival will take place on January 31st  and February 1st at Trapp Family Lodge.

The Panthers received some strong individual finishes in the Giant Slalom, with a pair of top skiers crashing during their first runs. Hig Roberts went down on the men's side, while Kara Shaw did the same for the women.

Yina-Moe-Lange led the women's team with an impressive fourth-place finish to start the year in 2:05.63. Elle Gilbert was Middlebury's next finisher, earning a 16th-place finish with a time of 2:09.53. Rounding out the Panther scorers was Katelyn Barclay, who placed 26th in 2:11.71.

Christopher McKenna was impressive in his first NCAA collegiate race, earning a top-10 finish in fifth with a time of 2:01.26. Nick Bailey and Liam Mulhern also scored for the Panthers, placing 16th (2:03.62) and 29th (2:05.67), respectively.
