Women's Tennis Edged By Amherst

In a battle of two of the nation's best teams, top-ranked Amherst (17-1, 9-0) edged out a 5-4 victory over third-ranked Middlebury (10-5, 6-2) in women's tennis action. The match marked the final one of the regular season for both teams, as action continues this weekend at the NESCAC Championship.

Amherst held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with Middlebury's Ria Gerger and Lok-Sze Leung topping Jennifer Newman and Zoe Pangalos, 8-6 at #2.

Gabby Devlin was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Middlebury's Dorrie Paradies at #5, before Panther Leah Kepping made it a 3-2 match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sue Ghosh at #3. Amherst put the match away with two more singles victory to take a 5-2 lead. Caroline Richman topped Margot Marchese 6-2, 6-2 at #4, before Pangalos was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Brittney Faber at #6.

Middlebury hung tough down the stretch, picking up two more singles wins to make it a 5-4 final. Leung defeated Jordan Brewer 6-4, 6-4 at #1, while Gerger out-lasted Newman 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 at #2.
