Middlebury gave up a first half goal and could not net the equalizer as Tufts (6-2-1, 4-2) picked up a 1-0 victory over the Panthers (3-3-1, 2-3-1) in Medford, Mass. Middlebury is off until next Saturday, when they host Trinity at 2:30.

Rui Pinheiro's goal was the first true scoring chance of the first half. Scott Blumenthal started the play with some crafty dribbling down the left side, crossing to  Monil Patel. He found Pinheiro rushing down the field for a one-time finish with five minutes left until halftime.

Middlebury out-shot Tufts 9-4 in the first half, and had two corners to zero for the Jumbos. However, Tufts keeper Scott Greenwood made four saves in the first 45 minutes.

The Panthers finished with a large 19-6 margin in shots, but could not capitalize. Adam Glaser was a handful for the Jumbos, putting five shots towards the net. Noah Goss-Woliner had back-to-back shots late in the second half that were both wide, finishing with six overall.

Six of Middlebury's 19 shots were on goal, all stopped by Greenwood for the shutout. It was his sixth of the season, Tufts' seventh as a team in nine games.

Senior Ethan Collins made one save in the Middlebury goal, as the Panthers had a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks.
