Cross Country Teams Win State Meet

The Middlebury cross country teams both captured the State Championship meet hosted by Lyndon State College. The fourth-ranked Middlebury women won the eight-team event by placing the top seven runners, while the 12th-ranked Panther men captured their nine-team meet with 12 of the top 15 racers.

Junior Nate Sans (Princeton, Mass.) captured the men's race, finishing with a time of 28:23, seven seconds ahead of junior Greg Krathwohl (Ipswich, Mass.), who earned a time of 28:30. Placing third in the event was junior Wilder Schaaf (Ashland, Ore.) in 29:11, followed by senior Mac Stormont (Atlanta, Ga.), who was fourth in 29:14. Rounding out Middlebury's scorers in fifth place was first-year racer Luke Carpinello (Delmar, N.Y.) in fifth place with a time of 29:35.

Pacing the women was sophomore Katie Carlson (Princeton, Mass.), who captured the race with a time of 20:21. Sophomore Sarah Guth (Wilton, Conn.) placed second in 20:31, followed by first-year racer Olivia Araiz (Banks, Ore.) in third place with a time of 20:36. Sophomore Summer Spillane (Shelburne, Vt.) and rookie Kate Leib (Morristown, N.J.) rounded out the Panther scorers in fourth (20:39) and fifth (20:49) places respectively.
