The #5 Middlebury women's cross country team put together a strong outing on Saturday against a talented field at the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational, claiming fifth place with 112 points. The University of Massachusetts Amherst secured the team title with 55 points, while Yale earned runner-up honors (62 points) and Northeastern (84 points) rounded out the top three.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Audrey MacLean grabbed eighth place to headline the navy and white, stopping the clock at 21:12.7.
• Claire Palmer used a late surge to grab 16th on the leaderboard, passing 10 runners across the final split with a time of 21:42.5.
• The third Panther finisher was Annelise Jensen, whose personal-best effort of 21:52.3 slotted 22nd.
• Annecy Vlieks starred in her second collegiate race, nabbing 27th place at 22:10.9.
• Rounding out the scoring group was Megan Faris. She jumped seven spots over the final portion for a clocking of 22:36.7 to secure 40th. 

NOTES

• The Panthers were the lone Division III squad to compete in the event.

Middlebury is idle next weekend before traveling to Lehigh University for the Paul Short Invitational on Friday, October 2.
