Women's Golf Places Second - Weeks Earns Medalist Honors

The Panther women's golf team opened spring play with a second place finish at the 11-team Vassar Invitational. Middlebury shot a two-day total of 667, four strokes behind tournament winner Amherst. Action was taking place at the par 70, 5,805-yard Dutchess Golf and Country Club.

Flora Weeks captured medalist honors at the event, topping Elizabeth Monty of Amherst in a playoff after they both finished with a two-day total of 158. In the one-hole playoff, Monty shot par and seemed in position for the win, but Weeks sank a miraculous 30-foot putt from the fringe to make par and extend the playoff. On the second hole, Monty hooked it left and wound up behind a tree in the rough. She punched the ball out and two-putted to salvage a bogey. Weeks clinched the individual title with a drive down the right side of the green and a two-putt for a routine par.

Keely Levins fired a red-hot 78 on day two to finish tied for eighth with a 168. Jordan Glatt was just one stroke back in 10th with a 169, followed by Michelle Peng who shot a 171, good for 15th place.
