Middlebury was back in action Saturday afternoon, picking up their second win of the weekend against Colby. Five different players scored for the fifth-ranked Panthers, who moved to 2-0 on the season, while Colby falls to 0-2.
The Panthers got on the board first 8:18 into the first period with a goal just one second after a power play had expired. Hannah Bielawski poked in a loose puck after a shot by Jennifer Krakower was denied. Colby's best chance to score in the period came at 12:18 when Breanna Davis' breakaway was saved by Lauren Pinsent. After winning a face-off, Sara Ugalde scored on a rebound after a shot by Molly Downey was saved at the 13:07 mark.
Middlebury made it a 3-0 game 9:56 into the second period when Carly Schaeder scored on a rebound. With just 16 seconds left in the period, Hannah Bielawski stole the puck before feeding Katie Sullivan who made it a 4-0 game. Colby had a pair of power play opportunities in the second period, but could not take advantage.
Lauren Greer scored her first of the season 4:34 into the third period, scoring from the face-off circle with a shot off the pads of goalkeeper Brianne Wheeler. Colby broke up the shutout with a goal midway through the period at 10:43. Lauren Guarente made a pass from behind the net to Annie Papadellis, who finished to make it a 5-1 final.
Middlebury held a 27-14 shots advantage in the game with Laura Pinsent making 13 saves to earn the win. Wheeler made 12 saves in 44:34 for Colby, while Angelica Crites played 15:26 of scoreless hockey with 10 saves in the third period.
