Box Score Middlebury head coach Peter Kim became the first women's soccer coach in school history to earn 100 wins as the Panthers topped Bates (4-8-1, 1-7-1), 3-0. He now has a career record of 100-35-18 (.712) in his ninth season as the team's head coach. With the win, the Panthers (11-1-1, 7-1-1) have locked up a NESCAC Quarterfinal home game on October 27th, following their regular season finale at Williams this Wednesday. A victory in Wednesday's contest would give the 17th-ranked Panthers the top seed for the entire NESCAC Tournament.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when Scarlett Kirk found Claire Nishioka in the box, with a quick finish for her second of the season.
Middlebury kept coming with a great chance in the 56th minute, but a big save from Bates' keeper Anabel Schmelz (5 saves) denied Kirk from point-blank range. Kirk saw another great shot on a header denied by Schmelz in the 61st minute, after a nice feed from Hannah Robinson.
The Panthers made it a 2-0 game at 67:45, when Kirk broke through for her team-leading seventh of the season. Rachel Madding dribbled through the middle before making quick feed to Kirk, who finished from 10 yards out. The Panthers added a late goal when Hannah Newman converted a penalty kick for her first of the year.
The first half shots were even at 3-3, with Middlebury finishing with a 12-6 edge in the game. Jocelyn Remmert made one save in the first 20:30 of play, while Elizabeth Foody earned the win with four saves in 69:30 of action for the Panthers.
