Fifth-ranked Middlebury remained undefeated on the season with a 64-56 come-from-behind victory over Wesleyan (8-8, 1-2) in Pepin Gym. The Panthers (14-0, 3-0) improve on their school-best start, as they prepare to host Conn. College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Cardinals return to action on Saturday at Williams.

Middlebury led early on, holding a 15-10 advantage with 11:06 remaining in the first half. Wesleyan came on strong, going on an 11-2 run, including eight points from Shasha Brown to take a 21-17 lead at the 8:36 mark. The Panthers battled back to tie the game at 27, before heading into the intermission trailing, 29-28.

Wesleyan maintained its lead through a good part of the second half, holding a game-high 11-point advantage with 8:57 remaining. Derick Beresford scored five points during the quick 7-0 spurt that pushed the lead to 52-41.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, they would score only four more points in the remaining 8:57, as Middlebury went on a 23-4 run to close the contest. Ryan Sharry scored seven points during the run, including a key three-pointer that gave Middlebury its first lead of the second half. The Panthers were solid down the stretch from the free throw line, knocking down 10 of 12 in the final eight minutes of the contest.

The Panthers overcame .392 shooting from the floor and .263 from behind the arc in the victory. The Cardinals shot just .379 from the floor, but connected on 8 of 20 from three-point range. Middlebury held a 42-20 edge on the boards, as Sharry tied a career-high with 16 caroms, while scoring a team-high 22 points in the win. Ryan Wholey added 11 points and seven boards, while Jake Wolfin scored eight with four assists.

Brown scored a game-high 26 points for Wesleyan on 11 of 20 shooting from the floor. Jason Mendell added eight points and six boards, while Otis Poisson netted eight.
