Action Complete At UVM Carnival

Middlebury earned its third straight fourth place finish in carnival action, as the Panthers earned 717.5 points at the University of Vermont carnival. Dartmouth (919) won the event, followed by UVM (798.5), UNH (735.5) and Middlebury.

Senior Mattie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.) had another impressive weekend for the alpine women, placing eighth in the GS with a time of 2:01.48. Not far behind in a tie for 10th was sophomore Nicole Dvorak (Essex Junction, Vt.) in 2:01.56, followed closely by sophomore Tasha Woodworth (Carlisle, Mass.) in 12th (2:01.67). Junior Leah McLaughry (Norwich, Vt.) also had a solid finish in 17th place (2:01.94). Ford came in fifth place for the Panthers in the slalom in 1:58.46, followed by Woodworth in sixth (1:58.56). Senior Tucker Burton (Breckenridge, Colo.) rounded out Middlebury's scorers with a ninth place (2:00.03) finish as the Panthers placed second in the event.

The Middlebury men were impressive in the GS, led by senior Andrew Wagner (Traverse City, Mich.), who placed fourth overall in 1:56.53. Junior Jonathan Hunter (McAfee, N.J.) and sophomore Bobby Poehling (LaCrosse, Wis.) were next for the Panthers in 11th (1:57.61) and 12th place (1:57.87) respectively. Wagner led the group in the slalom in seventh place (1:46.32), followed by a pack of Panthers in 26th-31st places. Hunter earned team points in 26th (2:02.39), as did rookie David Dodge (Williston, Vt.) in 29th (2:09.86).

First-year racer Elise Moody-Roberts (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) earned two more top finishes for the women's nordic team over the weekend. The rookie came in fourth overall (14:57) in the 5K free, while placing fifth (38:28) in the 10K classical race. Senior Robyn Anderson (Stowe, Vt.) was close behind each day, coming in ninth (15:41) in the 5K and sixth (38:51) in the 10K race. Senior Cassidy Edwards (Glen Arbor, Mich.) was the team's third scorer in both events, placing 16th (16:01) in the 5K and 12th (40:15) in the 10K event.

Senior Tim Reynolds (Bristol, Vt.) led the men's squad in the 10K freestyle race, earning a top 10 finish in ninth place with a time of 27:17. First-year racer Chase Marston (Charlotte, Vt.) came in 14th place (27:30) for the Panthers, followed by senior Anders Meyer (Lincolnshire, Ill.) in 24th (28:06). With Reynolds out sick on Sunday, Marston paced the team in the 15K classic, placing seventh overall with a time of 47:24. Junior Mike Mommsen (St. Louis Park, Minn.) came in 14th (48:07) for Middlebury, followed by Meyer in 40th (51:36) place. The nordic men will get a lift this weekend with the addition of Simi Hamilton and Patrick Johnson.
