The Middlebury women's cross country teams finished in a first place tie with M.I.T. at the NCAA New England Regional Women's Cross Country Championships held under rainy skies at the Twin Brook Recreation Center in Cumberland, Maine. Middlebury and MIT each finished with 63 points and earned the region's two automatic qualifying spots for next weekend's NCAA Division III National Championships to be hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College and the Cleveland Sports Commission. Williams College finished third with 99 points, followed by Amherst College with 116 and Wesleyan University with 159.

Middlebury was led by Addie Tousley (Kensington, Md.) who came home in fourth place in 21:54.6. Claire McIlvennie (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Sarah Lange (Brattleboro, Vt.) placed 10th and 12th with times of 22:05.6 and 22:09.8 respectively. Sophia Spring (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) was 15th and Elise Moody-Roberts (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) completed the Panthers top five in 22nd place.

Williams won the men's race, followed by Amherst with Middlebury in seventh place. Sophomore Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) led the Panther men with a ninth place finish in 25:26, qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Junior Jack Terrett (Sherborn, Mass.) was next in 26th place (26:09), followed by senior Mike Waters (Bedford, Mass.) who placed 31st (26:12) overall. Senior Peter Hoffman (Rochester, Minn.) finished with a time of 26:28, good for 45th place, while rookie Jack Davies (Grosse Point, Mich.) ran the course in 26:38 to place 53rd.
