The Panther cross country teams took part in the Purple Valley Classic races hosted by Williams over the weekend. The women placed second to the host school in the 18-team race, while the men placed fifth as the Ephs captured the win.
Senior Alexandra Krieg (Wellesley, Mass.) had another solid race, placing second overall with a time of 22:30. Placing sixth for the Panthers was first-year racer Claire McIlvennie (Ithaca, N.Y.) in 23:09, followed by classmate Chelsea Ward-Waller (San Antonio Texas) in 15th place (23:38). Sophomore Hannah Meier (Charlotte, Vt.) came in 19th (23:56), while rookie Georgia Wright-Simmonds (Grinnell, Iowa) placed 29th (24:20) to complete the Middlebury scorers.
First-year racer Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) led the men's squad, placing 18th overall with a time of 27:27. Senior Jack Wambach (Evanston, Ill.) finished the race in 24th place (27:15), while sophomore Jack Terrett (Sherborn, Mass.) came in 30th (27:22) for the Panthers. Senior Rainey Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) came in 41st place (27:40), while senior Peter Murphy (Wilton, Conn.) placed 48th (27:49) to round out the Middlebury scorers.
