#1 Women’s Lacrosse Pulls Away From St. Lawrence

The #1 Middlebury women's lacrosse team tallied 15 unanswered goals spanning over 29 minutes of Sunday's action to seal a 19-7 victory over St. Lawrence. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Cate Rathnam got the Saints on the board first with 29 seconds expired, depositing a behind-the-net feed from Lily Stanton into the right side of the net.
  • Haley Hamilton put the Panthers in front (2-1) with consecutive free-position goals just 58 ticks apart.
  • St. Lawrence tied the game with 9:38 remaining via a nifty quick stick free-position opportunity from Stanton.
  • Middlebury grabbed the momentum back, ending the stanza with a 5-0 run to make it 7-2. Skylar Lach capped the jolt with a jumping bid from Siobhan Colin that found the left panel.
  • The Panther run continued in the second quarter, as a player-up goal by Sophia Lee 46 seconds into the stanza sparked seven straight for the hosts and a 14-2 lead at the half. Five different players earned a goal in the run, including a nifty spinning goal on the doorstep by Maddie Ocampo that sailed down the middle at the 3:22 mark.
  • Maeve Lee (12:40), Lach (10:31) and Parker Hanson (8:51) opened the third quarter with goals for a 17-2 advantage.
  • The Saints started to find their rhythm after the Middlebury blitz, scoring four consecutive tallies to make it 17-6 with 11:24 left in the fourth stanza. Rathnam headlined the stretch with two goals.
  • Middlebury closed out the contest with two of the final three tallies to seal the 19-7 final.

NOTES

  • Hamilton led the Panthers with a career-high six goals, while Lach added six points (3G, 3A).
  • Sophia Lee and Maeve Lee recorded three goals apiece.
  • Hanson and Lexi Barry each tallied their first points as a Panther.
  • The sides met for the 21st time, with Middlebury holding a 15-6 lead in the series. The navy and white have claimed the last 15 matchups.

The Panthers return to conference action, hosting #21 Trinity on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
