Top-Ranked Women’s Lacrosse Eases Past #24 Trinity 10-4

The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team scored Saturday's first three goals and six of the initial eight in the first half, easing past #24 Trinity 10-4 in NESCAC action.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers got on the board 2:10 into play when Maddie Ackerman scored on a quick stick following a pass from Caroline Adams.
  • Adams chipped in for the next two tallies, connecting with Siobhan Colin for a spinning finish 2:07 later. The senior pushed the lead to 3-0 with 4:18 left in the opening frame, dodging down the left channel before tucking her bid inside the post.
  • The Bantams stopped the surge when Alex Lesco bounced her free-position look around the stick of Middlebury goalie Elizabeth Savage, making it a 3-1 contest with 1:43 elapsed in the second.
  • The hosts answered 57 seconds later when Skylar Lach and Adams crafted a nifty give-and-go, capped when Lach fired a shot under the crossbar.
  • The Panthers continued to ride the momentum. Haley Hamilton won the draw and Colin pocketed her second of the day with 11:23 on the clock, lacing an attempt into the right panel on a stick-to-stick feed from Kendall Coyne (5-1).
  • Trinity sliced the deficit to 5-2 three minutes later while a player up when Sarah Marvin bounced a bid inside the post.
  • Middlebury responded with 1:44 left before the break. Lach sent a pass from behind the net, finding Maeve Lee who deposited her shot into the left side for a 6-2 advantage.
  • Adams made it a five-goal advantage (7-2), scoring on a free-position attempt 3:12 into the third frame.
  • The Bantams answered two minutes later as Kelsey Restivo snuck her bid into the left panel.
  • The Panthers scored 13 seconds apart later in the stanza. Hamilton posted her team-leading 18th goal on a riser from the right side. Adams won the ensuing draw and raced down the field, depositing a shot past Trinity goalie Alison MacDougall at 6:46.
  • Colin completed her hat trick 1:29 into the fourth quarter, firing a spinning attempt that found the back of the net for a 10-3 edge.
  • The visitors tallied their fourth marker as Restivo snuck her free-position look into the lower-left portion with 10:34 remaining.
  • The Bantams continued to press, looking to get back into the contest, but Savage posted five key saves and the Panther defense didn't allow a goal en route to a 10-4 triumph.
NOTES
  • Adams finished the contest with career-best totals in points (eight) and assists (five) alongside winning eight draws.
  • Lach scored once and assisted on another marker, giving her 100 points as a Panther (71 G, 29 A). 
  • Colin secured the first hat trick in the blue and white jersey.
  • Caroline Messer scooped up four ground balls and caused a career-best five turnovers. With her four rollers, she surpasses 100 in her career (101). 
  • Savage ended the game with a season-best seven saves.
  • The programs met for the 48th matchup with Middlebury holding a 31-17 advantage in the all-time series and the Panthers have won the last 12 contests.
Middlebury returns to action on Sunday when it squares off with #10 Franklin & Marshall. The contest will be played in Scranton, Pennsylvania with the opening draw scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
