#1 Middlebury Leads Wire to Wire in 16-2 Win Over #10 Franklin & Marshall

The top-ranked Panther women's lacrosse team found an early rhythm and never faltered, posting a 16-2 win over 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall in Sunday's neutral-site showdown at Scranton.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The defensive units impacted the game early, causing three combined miscues in the opening seven minutes. Haley Hamilton ended the scoreless stretch with an extra player, depositing a feed from Skylar Lach to take a 1-0 lead with 7:10 expired.
  • Maddie Ackerman doubled the advantage with a free-position finish 56 seconds later.
  • The Diplomats brought the deficit back to one with 4:07 remaining off the stick of Lauren Pittman, making it a 2-1 game through 15 minutes.
  • Middlebury posted all six markers of the second stanza, beginning with a renewal of the Lach-Hamilton connection with 2:33 gone. Hamilton tallied two more goals in the quarter, while Caroline Adams scored twice and Maeve Lee added a score and a helper to build an 8-1 lead at the break.
  • Following finishes from Ackerman and Siobhan Colin early in the third, Hamilton found the back of the net with 6:56 remaining to trigger the running clock. Adams tacked on a pair in the final 5:32 of the frame to increase the lead to 13-1.
  • Libby Schiffmann joined the scoring column on an unassisted goal with 3:07 elapsed in the fourth session. Franklin & Marshall's Myranda Beebe answered from the eight-meter spot with 8:07 to go, but Hamilton (5:24) and Maggie Spehr (0:59) capped the scoring to seal the 16-2 triumph.

  • The Panthers own a 6-1 advantage and a five-game winning streak in the all-time series against the Diplomats.
Middlebury plays its second of five consecutive games away from home on Saturday, battling Bates at 12:00 p.m.
