The sides exchanged two-goal runs early in Saturday's first quarter, but the #1 Middlebury women's lacrosse team rattled off the next four tallies and held off a late surge from Bates to secure an 11-8 triumph.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Panthers took a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals 50 seconds apart to open the contest. Haley Hamilton worked from behind the net and scored on a wraparound bid before tucking a free-position shot into the lower-right corner with 1:33 expired.
- The Bobcats took advantage of a player-up opportunity about four minutes later. Clare McGeever dodged a defender and fired a shot into the left panel. At the 8:02 mark, Laci Raveis deposited an attempt past goalie Elizabeth Savage to knot the game at 2-2.
- Middlebury commenced the decisive run spanning 9:37 over the first and second stanzas. Skylar Lach kickstarted the spurt on a quick stick with 6:51 remaining on a nifty feed from Caroline Adams, before Adams scored in transition two minutes later.
- Savage kept the momentum in favor of the Panthers, denying a point-blank chance from Grace Cassin with 2:08 showing on the clock.
- The navy and white increased the lead to 5-2 when Hamilton completed her hat trick on a quick-stick tally on a crisp pass from behind the net by Lach with 1:11 gone in the second frame.
- Lach finished the four-goal outburst at 12:15 via a turnaround shot at the top of the crease following a stick-to-stick feed from Adams for a 6-2 advantage
- The Bobcats cut the deficit to 6-4 with goals from Lauren Wong and Caroline Keating with 1:52 left in the first half.
- Hamilton posted her fourth of the contest with 57.9 seconds on the clock, finishing a quick bid on a pass from Maddie Ackerman for a 7-4 lead.
- Bates recorded the next two goals off a free position bid by Keating and a dodge and score down the left alley from Wong to make it 7-6 with 5:41 left in the stanza.
- Britt Nawrocki pushed the advantage to 8-6 just 45 seconds later, placing a free-position bid into the upper-left corner.
- Adams pushed the Panthers ahead by three, wiggling through a pair of defenders and depositing the ball into the right panel with 1:54 left.
- The Bobcats weren't done yet, as Collins bounced a free-position chance into the lower-left portion and Keating found the back of the net with 8:18 left with a player-up tally to pull within one at 9-8.
- Adams weaved through the defense and grabbed her hat trick via a shot under the crossbar to make it 10-8 with 6:14 left on the extra attacker opportunity.
- With 3:57 remaining, a whirling attempt by Cassin was denied on the doorstep by Savage to maintain the two-goal lead as the Panther defense nullified a yellow card.
- Adams completed her day with her fourth tally, finding space in the lower-right corner with 1:09 remaining for the 11-8 score.
NOTES
- Adams continued her strong start to the season, finishing the contest with four goals, two assists and seven draw control wins.
- Lucy Bishop finished with a career-best four caused turnovers, tied her career high with three ground balls and secured nine draws. She vaults into eighth place in the program's record books with 175 career wins.
- Saturday's 11 goals mark the 80th-straight contest that Middlebury has scored in double figures, dating back to the 2022 season.
- The programs met for the 43rd matchup, with the Panthers holding a 38-5 advantage in the all-time series. Middlebury has won the last six contests and 14 of the last 15.
