Early Surge Motors #1 Women’s Lacrosse Past #20 UChicago

The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team tallied seven first-quarter goals en route to a 13-6 triumph Tuesday over #20 University of Chicago.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Caroline Adams helped the Panthers craft an early edge, securing the opening draw and finding nylon 50 seconds into the tilt. She hauled in the following draw and drew a whistle, depositing a free-position shot to lead by a pair with 13:12 remaining in the initial quarter.
  • Haley Hamilton etched a pair of tallies in the scoring column over the ensuing 2:06. She grabbed the rebound of a shot and sent a second bid to the back of the net before scoring from the fan with an extra player just over a minute later, doubling the advantage (4-0) and prompting a Maroon timeout.
  • Lila Porzio won possession for UChicago out of the huddle, but Adams disrupted the clear and took the ball away before adding her third marker of the opening quarter. The Maroons forced a pair of Middlebury miscues in the next seven minutes, but Maeve Lee (3:19) and Hamilton (2:21) widened the lead to 7-0.
  • Kelly Callaghan capitalized on a call inside the eight-meter space with a free-position goal to set the score at 7-1 through 15 minutes.
  • Grace Hopkins helped the hosts further trim the margin, cashing in a feed from Peyton McGuire 45 seconds into the second frame for a 7-2 ballgame.
  • Lee helped offset the hosts' tallies with an unassisted strike at the 8:54 mark, but UChicago parried with consecutive goals from the sticks of Kaylin Oey and McGuire to cut the deficit to four.
  • Adams set the table for Hamilton's fourth goal, establishing a 9-4 halftime line.
  • Callaghan (14:27) and McGuire (11:39) tightened the contest to 9-6 through the first four minutes of the second half. Adams answered with a pair of goals under two minutes apart to arrange an 11-6 contest with 8:28 left in the third session.
  • Lee (13:15) and Adams (9:05) ensured the Panther result with fourth-quarter tallies to secure a 13-6 win.
NOTES
  • Adams finished with a career-high six goals on eight shots, with all eight landing on target. Her nine draw controls made her the first player in program history to eclipse 400 in a career.
  • Hamilton posted four or more markers for the fifth time in seven games.
  • Lee earned her third hat trick of the campaign.
  • Middlebury has won 80 of its last 81 games dating back to May 15, 2022.
  • The Panthers have won all three matchups with UChicago in the all-time series. Tuesday's clash was the first between the programs in the regular season.
The Panthers prepare for their next test on Saturday, traveling to face #3 Tufts at 12:00 p.m.
