Four Unanswered Tallies Push #1 Middlebury to 11-10 Win Over #3 Tufts

The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team grabbed its first lead with 1:02 left in the third quarter and never relinquished in an 11-10 victory over #3 Tufts on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Jumbos opened the scoring 14 seconds into the contest. Eleanor Helm cut inside and fired a low-angle bid that found the left panel.
  • Caroline Adams knotted the contest 1:31 later, placing her shot into the right side of the goal off a feed from Parker Hanson.
  • The sides traded tallies 30 seconds apart, beginning at the 12:46 mark. Kate Deehan cashed in a player-up opportunity via a bouncer that snuck past Elizabeth Savage, while Adams added her second of the day on a quick-stick feed from Skylar Lach.
  • Tufts retook a one-goal advantage at the 14:05 mark on a flying bid from Grace Hammond that sailed into the middle of the net.
  • The Jumbos opened the second stanza with consecutive free-position tallies from Allie Zorn (14:09) and Elsa Schutt (11:45) to rebuild a 5-2 advantage.
  • Lach provided a spark for the Panther attack, finding the back of the net twice over 46 seconds to make the score 5-4 with 4:07 remaining.
  • With 1:31 left in the first half, Sophia Claps cut through two defenders and skipped a bid into the left panel, establishing a 6-4 halftime score.
  • Tufts widened its lead at the 2:30 mark of the third stanza. Deehan cut through the zone and snuck a look inside the left post.
  • Maddie Ackerman kick-started the decisive spurt nearly three minutes later, sneaking her free-position bid into the right side of the net.
  • The Middlebury offense kept rolling. Siobhan Colin, Lach and Adams each added a goal 1:39 apart to take an 8-7 lead into the final stanza. Two of the three tallies were player-up chances.
  • The Jumbos tied the game at eight with 14:29 remaining. Lloyd sliced into the middle of the offensive zone and found the top-right corner.
  • The Panthers rallied again, as Lach and Maeve Lee rustled the net with consecutive bids over 58 seconds to retake a 10-8 advantage at the 9:42 mark.
  • Deehan looked to trim the deficit with 7:56 left on a free-position, but Macy Sweeny cut off the lane and scooped up possession of the loose ball.
  • Kendall Coyne joined the scorers' sheet nearly three minutes later, racing into a wide-open zone and burying her shot into the right panel following a nifty feed from Lach.
  • Tufts sliced the margin to 11-10 with back-to-back goals from Helm and Lloyd with 1:08 remaining.
  • Mia Sommer won the ensuing draw and hunted the equalizer. Zorn fired a bid with 11 seconds left, but the opportunity sailed high as Middlebury clinched the triumph.
