Top-Ranked Panthers Cruise Past Skidmore

Trailing 1-0 early in Wednesday's first quarter, the top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team scored six straight goals and never looked back in a 20-1 victory over Skidmore.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Thoroughbreds opened the scoring with 2:32 expired in the first stanza. Phoebe Ross fired a feed from behind the net to Allison Brewer, who found the left side of the net.
  • Maddie Ackerman got the visitors on the board less than a minute later, looping around the Skidmore defense and sliding a shot past goalie Tatum Walsh to tie the game.
  • With 10:29 remaining, Caroline Adams cut through and skipped the ball into the net to grab the lead.
  • Julie Cafasso tried to even the contest at the 6:20 mark, but Elizabeth Savage slid to her right and denied the bouncing bid.
  • The Panther offense came alive, closing the final 7:55 with four unanswered tallies to build a 6-1 lead after 15 minutes. Haley Hamilton headlined the surge with two goals spanning 39 seconds.
  • Middlebury kept the momentum to open the second stanza. Hamilton bookended a 5-0 run over nearly 10 minutes with goals to push the visitors to an 11-1 lead at the half.
  • The Panthers tacked on four goals to open the third quarter, capped by a draw control win and snipe from Skylar Lach for a 15-1 contest with 7:48 left.
  • Phoebe Lee nearly tallied a goal 1:40 later in transition, but her point-blank opportunity was denied by a high-rise stick stop from Savage.
  • Middlebury finished the third with three goals for an 18-1 lead heading into the fourth.
  • Sofia Collins and Maeve Lee tacked on two more tallies in the final quarter and Annie Spring stopped all three shots she faced in relief to seal the 20-1 victory.

NOTES

  • Sophia Lee and Ackerman also added hat tricks.
  • Middlebury has scored 10 or more goals in 75 consecutive contests.
  • The programs met for the 26th time and the first matchup since 2012. The navy and white have claimed each contest.
