The #1 Middlebury women's lacrosse team rattled off eight unanswered goals to open the season, en route to an 11-6 victory over Bowdoin. The win marked the 300th in the career of head coach
Kate Livesay.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Striking first was Caroline Adams, who bounced the ball with 12:15 remaining for the 1-0 edge.
- Just under a minute later, Haley Hamilton delivered a free-position bid into the lower left side before using a quick-stick tally on a dish from Skylar Lach at the 10:56 mark for the 3-0 lead.
- Middlebury increased the advantage to 4-0 with 9:43 to go. Following a free-position attempt by Siobhan Colin, Maeve Lee received the feed and found nylon.
- Hamilton tallied a pair of goals sandwiched between a cutter by Adams to make it 7-0 with 5:28 to go.
- Maddie Ackerman closed out the span, weaving through traffic and firing a sidearm bid into the goal to build the 8-0 advantage after one stanza of action.
- The Polar Bears got on the board with four minutes elapsed in the second quarter following a quick clear. Annie Bermingham raised her stick above a pair of defenders to snatch a pass from Grace Schorr and fire it into the net.
- Colin responded just over a minute later, squeezing between a trio of defenders and scoring with a low sidearm shot to make it 9-1.
- Bowdoin cut the deficit to 9-2 with 7:42 left when Grace Harvey dodged two Panthers and found the back of the goal.
- The Polar Bears carried their momentum into the third stanza, with Tate Ryan slipping the ball into the net on a dish from Miya Imaeda at the 11:12 mark.
- Following a caused turnover in its defensive end, Bowdoin quickly cleared the ball and Imaeda found nylon to slice the Middlebury lead down to 9-4.
- With 27 ticks left on the third-quarter clock, Alexandra Walker whipped a free-position from the top left into the goal to give the Panthers a double-digit score (10-4).
- The fourth stanza was a back-and-forth affair, with Bowdoin finally breaking through with just 4:14 to go.
- Adams capitalized on a player-up situation with 2:24 remaining to increase the lead to 11-5.
- The Polar Bears tacked on a late tally from Schorr for the 11-6 final.
NOTES
- This marked the sixth-straight season-opening win for Middlebury.
- Hamilton paced the squad with four goals, while Adams scored three times and won eight draw controls.
- The programs played for the 50th time, with the Panthers claiming their 45th triumph.
