#3 Panthers Control Pace In 6-1 Triumph Over #16 Endicott

The #3 Middlebury field hockey team tallied two goals in the first 8:17 of game action and never looked back in a 6-1 triumph over #16 Endicott on Sunday from Peter Kohn Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers surged ahead with 1:56 expired. After Addie Chandler ripped an initial chance that goalie Faith Minickene denied, Emma McCann collected the loose ball and found the right side of the cage to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Endicott nearly knotted the game less than a minute later. Abby Antonelli charged into the circle before firing a shot toward the center of the cage. Goalie Izzy Redzic slid off her line to deny the point-blank opportunity.
  • Eliza Larson doubled the Middlebury lead at the 8:17 mark, redirecting a loose ball for a cross-cage bid that snuck inside the right post.
  • The hosts continued to push the envelope with three shots over 24 seconds from Claire McMichael and Megan Fuqua. Minickene held her ground and denied each chance with her pads to keep it a 2-0 game after 15 minutes.
  • The Panthers cashed in on a penalty corner with 4:10 elapsed in the second stanza. Fuqua poked a pass near the right post that Hadley Crowther redirected past Minickene for the third goal of the contest.
  • Endicott crafted some momentum about six minutes later. Allison Fijux drove to the left post and tried a flip a shot over Redzic's left shoulder. The senior stood tall and punched the bid away with her blocker.
  • Just 25 ticks into the third stanza, the hosts made it 4-0 off a penalty corner. Lily Stockwell stopped an insert from McCann, who flipped it to Tessa Herbst. The defender rifled the ball near the right side of the circle, which glanced off Crowthers' stick and snuck past Minickene.
  • Ally Kennedy joined the goal party with 6:31 remaining in the third, directing a penalty corner insert from McCann just inside the left post.
  • The Gulls spoiled the shutout at the 44:07 mark. Abby Antonelli stepped forward and fired a shot toward the right post. Middlebury netminder Madeline DiLemme nearly slid over in time, but Antonelli snuck it under her pads for a 5-1 contest.
  • McMichael capped the scoring 1:21 into the final frame, wiggling through a host of Endicott defenders and depositing a rising reverse sweep into the left side of the cage to seal the 6-1 victory and snap Endicott's eight-game winning streak.

NOTES

  • Crowther posted her first career multi-goal game with two tallies to pace the Panthers.
  • McCann scored once and added an assist for her fourth outing with two or more points this season.
  • Middlebury held a 22-3 lead in shots on goal and had a season-high 26 penalty corners.
  • The Panthers earned their fifth win in six tries against the Gulls.

Middlebury jumps back into conference action next weekend with a road battle against #1 Tufts on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
