Top-Ranked Middlebury Breezes Past Skidmore 6-0

The #1 Middlebury field hockey team opened its three-game road stint with a 6-0 victory over Skidmore at Wagner Park on Tuesday.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers created their first scoring chance 2:39 into the first quarter. Claire McMichael brought the ball near the end line and delivered a feed in front to Addie Chandler, but her bid bounced wide of the left post.
  • Middlebury earned five penalty corners across the next 5:40 of play, with the fifth leading to the first goal of the evening. Grace Keefe connected with Emma McCann after the insert, who pushed it into the cage with 7:33 to play in the session.
  • Emma McNealy kept the pressure on with 10:38 expired in the frame, sending a shot from the left post across the goal mouth. Skidmore's Brooke Golden got her stick on the ball to record the defensive save.
  • Keefe scored from the penalty spot with 2:07 remaining in the stanza to extend the Panther lead to 2-0.
  • Middlebury manufactured the third tally of the contest at the 18:17 mark. Thoroughbred goalie Allison Morgan turned away an attempt from McCann, but Chandler thumped the rebound into the left corner to make it 3-0.
  • Emma Houff logged Skidmore's first shot on goal with 22:10 expired in the game, requiring a save from Panthers goalie Izzy Redzic.
  • Georgianne Defeo took the ball on a rush downfield less than two minutes later, sending it in to Hadley Crowther for a redirected attempt into the right corner for a 4-0 Middlebury lead with 9:51 remaining before the break.
  • Just 94 seconds into the second half, Ally Kennedy found McCann amidst a penalty corner for the fifth Panther goal of the evening.
  • The visitors added the final marker of the contest at the 38:29 mark following a penalty corner. Sarah Bona delivered a dart from the end line that was settled by Tessa Herbst and blasted by McMichael to establish a 6-0 lead.
  • Shawna Ferraro challenged the Skidmore defense with a bid with 2:27 expired in the final session, but Lily Mae Dreyfuss made the save.
NOTES
  • McCann logged her first multi-goal game in a Middlebury uniform while Kennedy and Crowther each tallied their first markers of the season.
  • The programs squared off for the 53rd time with the Panthers possessing a 46-7 advantage in the all-time series.
  • With Tuesday's victory, Middlebury has won 60 consecutive non-conference matchups dating back to the 2017 regular season.
