The top-ranked Middlebury field hockey team tallied goals in the second and third quarters to earn a 2-1 victory over Connecticut College on Saturday in the Constitution State. Katharine DeLorenzo, the Borgen Family Head Coach of Field Hockey, surpassed the 400-triumph mark at Middlebury with the win.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Connecticut College created its first scoring chance with 4:40 gone in the first quarter. Sadie Gearan collected the ball and fired a point-blank shot toward the right post. Middlebury goalie Izzy Redzic read the bid the entire way and steered it away from the cage.
- With 9:02 remaining in the opener, Kellyn Scheel whipped in the ball from the right side of the circle. Gearan got a stick on it and looked to flip it between her legs, but Redzic kicked the shot aside.
- The Camels nearly cashed in following a penalty corner at the 9:07 mark. Meredith du Four sent a quick pass to Maddie Mason for a bid that deflected off a Panther stick and glanced off Redzic's right pad.
- Middlebury struck on its first shot of the contest with 5:50 expired in the second stanza. Tessa Herbst launched an attempt from just inside the top of the circle that deflected off the stick of Emma McCann. With the ball loose, Emma McNealy lifted a shot into the cage to take a 1-0 edge.
- The hosts looked for the equalizer 3:32 into the third quarter. Scheel blitzed inside and sent a bid that pushed wide of the right post.
- Middlebury tallied its second goal of the game with 3:15 remaining in the third. Ally Kennedy readied and fired a shot that deflected off McCann's stick and into the right corner of the cage to push the lead to 2-0.
- Connecticut College sent pressure at the 43:38 mark. In a scrum for the ball near the right post, Mason tried to poke the ball into the goal. Redzic stood her ground and kicked the ball out of harm's way.
- The Camels cut the lead with 9:38 left in the contest via a penalty stroke. Katie Dolan stepped up and lifted the ball past a diving Redzic into the left side of the cage for a 2-1 contest.
- Middlebury nearly added a third goal at the 51:08 mark. After a Camel turnover, McCann flipped the ball ahead to a racing Parker Hanson. The rookie settled and fired, but her bid sailed inches wide of the right post.
- Connecticut College tried to tally the equalizer in the final minute, but the Panther defense played keep away to seal the one-goal victory.

- DeLorenzo is one of 10 head coaches in Division III history to have won 400 or more games with a single institution.
- McCann tallied her second consecutive multi-point performance with a marker and an assist.
- Redzic moved to 8-0 on the year, tallying four saves in the triumph.
- Middlebury earned its 23rd straight victory over Connecticut College in the series.
