The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team trailed #4 Colby 10-9 at the end of the third quarter, but the visitors outscored the Mules 3-1 in the final 15 minutes and held on for a 12-11 triumph in a battle of top-five foes. The victory is the program's 50th-straight win away from Peter Kohn Field dating back to the 2019 season.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Panthers struck first on a pair of goals from Kelcey Dion just 35 seconds apart in the opening quarter. She dodged a defender and fired a shot into the bottom of the net with 1:12 expired, before bouncing a bid on a free-position attempt past goalie Jillian Kane.
- The Mules answered with four straight tallies over 4:13 of action. Julie Jardina started the spurt by burying a free-position shot into the top-left corner at the 12:06 mark, while Stella Regan capped the run on a quick-stick score with 7:53 left for a 4-2 lead.
- Middlebury leveled the contest at 4-4 as Hope Shue tallied a free position inside the right post at 3:52, while Skylar Lach scored on a turnaround shot 1:34 later.
- Colby regained the lead 1:09 into the second stanza when Ainsley Dion found the back of the net on a free-position bouncer into the right panel.
- Shue tied the game with 4:37 elapsed, working left to right and blasting a shot over Kane's shoulder.
- Caroline Adams gave the visitors a 6-5 edge about three minutes later, burying a chance inside the left post at the 7:05 mark.
- Jardina tallied again on a free-position bouncer while a player up a minute later to deadlock the game (6-6).
- Middlebury surged ahead by a pair (8-6) on goals from Britt Nawrocki and Shue with 3:51 left in the half.
- The Mules recorded three consecutive goals to start the third frame, grabbing a 9-8 edge on a free-position tally inside the left post by Tate Ban with 4:59 showing on the clock.
- Shue stopped the run with a free position, ripping her fourth goal into the lower-right corner 54 seconds later to make it a 9-9 game.
- Colby regained the advantage with 3:22 remaining in the third, as Jardina completed her hat trick with a free-position bid into the bottom-left corner.
- Adams opened the decisive run with 9:26 left in the final quarter, racing towards the crease and firing a shot into the left portion of the net for a 10-10 score.
- Dion and Maggie Coughlin gave the Panthers a 12-10 lead with their goals coming 50 seconds apart.
- Jardina drew the hosts within one (12-11) at the 3:12 mark, firing a shot into the lower-left corner.
- Seconds later, Colby had a player-up chance, but the Panther defense forced a possession-clock violation to get the ball back.
- Middlebury tallied a successful clear on its ensuing possession and held on for the thrilling 12-11 triumph.
NOTES
- Adams finished with a pair of goals and won six draw controls, becoming the second player in program history to surpass the 300 plateau for her career (302). She has won at least five draw controls in 27 of the last 30 games that she has played.
- Shue led the charge with six points (4G, 2A), posting at least five points in 20 of the last 34 games.
- Lucy Bishop tied her season-best output with six draw controls.
- Elizabeth Savage picked up the win in goal for the Panthers, improving to 11-0 for her career.
- The programs played for the 44th time with Middlebury owning a 31-13 advantage in the all-time series and winning eight-straight matchups.
