The top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team tallied five unanswered goals to close out a 19-10 victory at #15 Trinity. The win is the 65th-straight for the Panthers.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Middlebury struck first as Skylar Lach whipped a low sidearm shot into the goal with exactly one minute off the clock.
- The Bantams responded at the 12:14 mark to make it 1-1. Kaeley Zito drove into the middle and deposited her shot as a pair of defenders closed in.
- The Panthers rattled off three consecutive markers to take a 4-1 lead. Lach sparked the span with a nifty move to elude goalie Olivia Aguirre, Caroline Adams found the left panel, and Maggie Coughlin finished the spurt with a sidearm tally.
- Sandwiched between a pair of Middlebury players, Caroline Lally broke up the scoring spree to make it 4-2 with 2:12 remaining.
- Middlebury answered with a point-blank goal from Anna Spehr less than a minute later for the 5-2 advantage after the opening 15 minutes.
- The Bantams started the second quarter with back-to-back markers. Sarah Marvin converted a free position from the center hash and Grace Denious crashed the goal for her tally to cut the deficit to one (5-4).
- Adams and Hope Shue tallied free-positions one after another to extend the Panther lead to 7-4.
- Trinity answered with markers from Kelsey Restivo and Zito, slicing the advantage back to one (7-6) with 2:15 left in the half.
- Middlebury rattled off three straight tallies to end the half. Shue factored into each score, converting two free-positions, including one with an extra player, and dishing a helper to Coughlin on the final one for the 10-6 lead at intermission.
- The teams traded the initial trio of markers to start the third quarter before the Bantams tallied two in a row with Restivo dishing out a helper on the first before slipping the ball inside the right pipe to cut the deficit to 12-9 at the 8:32 mark.
- Maddie Ackermann tallied twice in the final 4:12 of the stanza, increasing the Panther advantage to 14-9.
- Brooke Kurtz converted a free position marker with 57 ticks off the fourth-quarter clock for a 14-10 game.
- Middlebury closed out the contest with five unanswered goals. Coughlin highlighted the span with two assists and a goal, helping on a pair of markers by Kelcey Dion for the 19-10 triumph.
NOTES
- Coughlin paced the Panthers with a season-high seven points (3G, 4A). With her trio of tallies, Coughlin surpassed the 100 career goals mark, running her total to 101.
- Adams won three draw controls, moving into a tie for the school record with 310 in her career.
- The programs played for the 48th meeting with Middlebury claiming its 30th win of the series.
The Panthers close out the regular season on Wednesday, hosting #25 Williams under the lights on Peter Kohn Field at 6:00 p.m.
